HOUSTON?A big boom?could be heard at the Texas Medical?Center?on Sunday?as demolition crews brought down?a 20-story building that used to be home to KHOU?11 News.
It didn?t take long?mere seconds, in fact?to create a new hole in the skyline of Houston?s medical district.
Crews demolished the former Prudential Life Insurance Building, located on the corner of Holcombe and Fannin. The crews had planned initially to touch off the explosives shortly before 8 a.m. Sunday, but dense fog delayed the series of blasts until 11:15 a.m.
Prudential Insurance Co. commissioned architect Kenneth Franzheim to design a stylish regional headquarters.
The 500,000-square-foot skyscraper, on the current Texas Medical Center campus, opened in 1952. KHOU 11 News operated out of the building from?January of 1954 to 1960. New Jersey-based Prudential sold it in 1975 to the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. It was made the center?s main building in 1980 before it was vacated and closed in April 2010.
The structure was razed to make way for a new clinical building that will connect to the Duncan Building and Mays Clinic.
A $4 million ranch life mural by artist Peter Hurd, called ?The Future Belongs To Those Who Prepare for It,? was removed from the building and will be part of a public library in Artesia, N.M.
Hurd, who died in 1984, once had a studio in Artesia.

Scott, 25, posted a video on her band's site Sunday to announce the good news. "We got married! We just wanted you to hear it from us first," Scott gushed to fans after showing off her wedding ring. "We love you. We're so excited to be starting our life together, and we just had to let you in on the excitement."?

Tyrell, the lead drummer of country music trio Love and Theft, first met the "Run to You" singer when they each served as opening acts on Tim McGraw's Southern Voice Tour in 2010.
Over the Fourth of July weekend, Tyrell popped the question to Scott while the two were enjoying a day at the lake in Tennessee.
COMMENTARY | Rep. Michele Bachmann, having listened to the judgment of the voters of Iowa, not to mention the gentle suggestion from her erstwhile political ally Sarah Palin, has suspended her campaign, effectively ending her quest for the presidency, according to ABC News,
Oceans of ink and bandwidth without count will doubtless be expended explaining why Bachmann, the winner of the Ames Straw Poll and the front-runner in the summer, wound up coming in sixth place in the Iowa Caucus. She had made some mistakes on the campaign trail, to be sure. But she did not have the baggage of a Newt Gingrich or the particularly crazy agenda of a Ron Paul.
In the end, Bachmann seems to have sought an office too far. People who serve in the House typically go not ascend directly to the presidency. Voters tend to want to see an intermediate step on the modern cursus honorum -- say a term or two in the Senate or a spell as governor of a state. Going from a House member straight to the office of the president is sort of like a parish priest aspiring to the papacy. It's just not done.
In a crowded field there was little reason to choose Bachmann over someone else. Conservative voters had Gingrich, Rick Perry, or Rick Santorum to choose from. Bachmann never made the case for why she should be preferred over the other three. Perry is a governor. Santorum was a senator. Gingrich was the first Republican speaker of the house in a generation and, despite all of his faults, a national political figure.
What does Bachmann do now? The next session of the Congress draws nigh and with it a chance to shine, now that she has had some national exposure. She needs to figure out what her next political move is. Does she endorse someone and if so whom? Santorum would be an obvious choice. He has the combination of fiscal and social conservatism that would be a good match. Perry and Gingrich would also benefit just a little from a nod from Bachmann.
Presuming that a Republican wins this year and wins reelection, the next national opportunity would be in 2020. Bachmann would be in her early 60s, a prime age of running again for president. But before that, a run for the Senate or governor of Minnesota should be considered. Bachmann's political career is not over.

Changes in circumstances include children getting older and developing new interests in or around one parent, parental job relocation or adjusting to new living conditions after one or both parents remarry. Courts mainly consider only shifts that impact custody or parenting time arrangements, because maintaining stability and doing what is in the best interests of the children is most important.
