High School Sports Roundup for Jan. 6, 2012

Girls Basketball

No. 2 Hillcrest 83, Evergreen Park 30: Lorielle Little scored 12 points to guide visiting Hillcrest (14-1, 5-0) in the South Suburban crossover. Karlisa Harris and Shannise Heady added 11 points apiece for the Hawks. Megan Beckow led Evergreen Park (1-12, 1-4) with 12 points.

No. 4 Rich Central 78, Rich East 60: Chaz Duson totaled 30 points and 16 rebounds for host Rich Central (16-4, 5-0) in the Southland. Jessica Warren tacked on 13 points and 13 rebounds for the Olympians. Makeba Elliott had 29 points for Rich East (11-6, 3-2).

Andrew 38, No. 7 Lincoln-Way North 36: Tiana Karopulos (17 points) and Nicole Botich (15) were the leading scorers for host Andrew (9-5, 3-1) in the SouthWest Suburban Red. Stephanie Pearson had 11 points for Lincoln-Way North (13-4, 3-1).

No. 9 Mother McAuley 69, Queen of Peace 34: Alyssa Siwek had 16 points to lead visiting Mother McAuley (11-6, 3-0) in the GCAC Red. Nora O?Malley scored 13 points for Queen of Peace (3-15, 1-5).

Stagg 46, Thornridge 20: Alexa Janus, Casey McMahon and Kara Pietrowski had nine points apiece for host Stagg (8-5, 3-1) in the SouthWest Suburban Red.

Richards 41, Lemont 35: Brianna LeBeau netted 11 points for host Richards (8-5, 3-2) in the South Suburban crossover. Courtney Toth, of Lemont (4-12, 3-2), led all scorers with 20 points.

Rich South 52, Crete-Monee 47: Sisters CiErra and DeAsia Garrett each scored 14 points for host Rich South (13-4, 4-1) in the Southland. Kiela Garner added 13 points, 10 rebounds and 10 steals for the Stars.

Tinley Park 59, Reavis 41: Diamond Beatty finished with 25 points for visiting Tinley Park (8-10, 4-1) in the South Suburban crossover. Stephanie Verduzco paced Reavis (5-10, 1-4) with 20 points.

Providence 56, St. Viator 42: Anna Novak tossed in 17 points to lift visiting Providence (9-8, 2-1) in the East Suburban Catholic.

Bloom 50, Kankakee 21: Bria Gaines had 26 points and 18 rebounds to spearhead visiting Bloom (10-7, 2-3) in the Southland. Katherine Strong chipped in nine points, 13 assists and 10 rebounds for the Blazing Trojans.

Oak Lawn 55, Bremen 19: Gina Baldea poured in 10 points for host Oak Lawn (9-5, 3-1) in the South Suburban crossover. Ellie LaSpina and LaTondra Brooks each tacked on nine points for the Spartans.

Thornton 39, Lincoln-Way West 38: Thornton (4-9, 2-2) won the SouthWest Suburban Red contest in Harvey. Amanda Hozzian netted 14 points for Lincoln-Way West (7-7, 2-2).

Morgan Park Academy 39, Mooseheart 29: Isabelle Panozzo netted 18 points to lead visiting Morgan Park Academy (4-8).

Seton 63, Maria 31: Tiffany Ellis had 15 points for visiting Seton (13-4) in the GCAC White.

Grant Park 54, Illinois Lutheran 52: Cynthia Frazier scored 11 points to lead visiting Illinois Lutheran in the River Valley.

Elmwood Park 39, Illiana Christian 37: Illiana Christian (7-12) lost the Metro Suburban contest in Lansing.

Boys Basketball

Oak Lawn 63, Bremen 43: Lyndell Johnson and Jacob Campbell scored nine points apiece for visiting Oak Lawn (6-7, 2-3) in the South Suburban crossover.

Boys Bowling

Eisenhower 1,647, Bremen 1,580: Richie Carrillo had a 211 game and two-game series of 401 to lead Eisenhower in the South Suburban crossover at Burr Oak Bowl. Bremen?s Jacob Reeves led all competitors with a 224 game and 409 series.

Oak Forest 2,028, Tinley Park 1,968: Erik LaBuda posted a 428 series for Oak Forest in the South Suburban Blue dual at Centennial Lanes. Tinley Park received a 446 series from Jeff Nichols.

Oak Lawn triangular: Oak Lawn (1,921) defeated Morton (1,870) and T.F. North (1,747) at Palos Lanes. Morton?s Jon Duarte (479) had the top series.

Girls Bowling

Reavis 1,671, Evergreen Park 1,572: Evergreen Park?s Sarah Klawitter had the top game (224) and series (423) in the South Suburban Red dual at El-Mar Bowl. Ashley Kouba paced Reavis with a 222 game and 416 series.

Bremen 1,674, Richards 1,518: Jessica Lundeen posted a 386 series to guide Bremen in the South Suburban crossover at Brunswick Zone in Oak Lawn. Sara McNeilly registered a 360 series for Richards.

Lockport 1,977, Lincoln-Way East 1,677: Bri Zabierek had a 450 series to pace Lockport in the SouthWest Suburban Blue meet at Thunder Bowl. Sarah Schmidt led Lincoln-Way East with a 374 series.

T.F. North 1,775, Oak Forest 1,484: L?Neisha Porter rolled games of 242 and 225 to lift T.F. North in the South Suburban Blue dual at Oak Forest Bowl. Tori Rodriguez?s 336 series was tops for Oak Forest.

Oak Lawn 1,407, Hillcrest 1,248: Shannon McGuire contributed a 328 series to spark Oak Lawn in the South Suburban crossover at Homewood?s Brunswick Zone XL.

Joliet West 1,689, Sandburg 1,686: Sandburg?s Faith Anagnos had a meet-best 377 series in the SouthWest Suburban Blue dual at Orland Bowl.

Tinley Park 1,834, T.F. South 1,732: Jeanna Piech bowled games of 232 and 242 to power Tinley Park in the South Suburban Blue meet at Centennial Lanes. Kayla Garcia had a 381 series for T.F. South.

Wrestling

Lemont triangular: Eric Kirkman (170 pounds) and Mike Devitt (220) each had two pins in helping Lemont beat Argo 60-15 and Reavis 43-20 in the South Suburban meet. In the other dual, Reavis topped Argo 38-25.

Shepard triangular: Shepard beat South Suburban foes Eisenhower 66-12 and Richards 48-11. In the remaining dual, Richards defeated Eisenhower 40-33.

Sandburg 51, Joliet Central 15: Visiting Sandburg rolled in the SouthWest Suburban Blue.

Boys Swimming

Reavis 99, Bremen 55: Rafael Ortiz won the 100-yard backstroke (1 minute, 3.51 seconds) for visiting Reavis in the South Suburban crossover. Bremen?s Kris Arnold was first in the 50 freestyle (25.19 seconds) and 100 freestyle (56.31).

Shepard 133, Argo 51: Steve Martinez, of Shepard, prevailed in the 50 free (24.50) and 100 free (53.92) in the South Suburban Red.

Lincoln-Way Central 94, Lockport 88: Lincoln-Way Central won the SouthWest Suburban Blue dual in New Lenox.
